About Geckos

Geckos are a diverse group of small to medium-sized lizards found throughout tropical, subtropical, and desert regions around the world. There are over 1,500 species of gecko, ranging from the colourful day geckos of Madagascar to the hardy leopard geckos of Asia and the Middle East. Many geckos are nocturnal and spend their nights hunting for food, while others are active during the day. Their most famous feature is the specialised toe pads found in many species, allowing them to climb smooth surfaces and even walk upside down.

In the wild, geckos mainly feed on insects such as crickets, moths, flies, and beetles, although some larger species may also eat fruit or nectar. They are agile hunters with excellent eyesight and quick reflexes. Unlike many lizards, geckos are also known for their vocalisations, using chirps and clicks to communicate with each other.

Geckos are among the most popular pet reptiles because they are generally hardy, manageable in size, and relatively easy to care for. Species such as the leopard gecko and crested gecko are especially favoured by beginners due to their calm temperaments and simple enclosure requirements. Their fascinating behaviours, attractive colours, and low maintenance needs make geckos excellent pets for both new and experienced reptile enthusiasts.
