Here at the Northampton Reptile Centre, we stock frozen hamsters as part of our range of less conventional frozen prey items, alongside frozen gerbils and guinea pigs, giving keepers more options when standard frozen food isn't working for their animals.
Frozen hamsters are a useful prey item for snakes, other reptiles and birds of prey, particularly for animals that have stopped taking mice or rats, or for keepers who want to offer a bit of variety in their pet's diet. A different prey item can make a real difference to a fussy feeder, and hamsters offer a distinct size and scent compared to conventional rodents. They're a nutritious option, providing protein and minerals as part of a healthy and varied frozen food diet.
Our hamsters are farm bred in ethical conditions and slaughtered humanely. They're quickly frozen shortly after to preserve their nutritional value, then packed and dispatched with dry ice to ensure they arrive in great condition, ready to store straight in your freezer.
Frozen hamsters are suitable for snakes, other reptiles and birds of prey. They're particularly useful for animals that refuse conventional prey like mice or rats, as the different scent and body size can encourage reluctant feeders.
Offering prey variety is good practice for many reptile keepers, and for fussy feeders in particular, switching to a different rodent can help get them back on food. Frozen hamsters have a different size, shape and scent to standard frozen mice, which some animals find more appealing. They can be used as a regular part of a varied diet or simply as a one-off treat to encourage feeding.
Yes. Our hamsters are farm bred in ethical conditions and slaughtered humanely. They're frozen quickly after death to preserve their nutritional properties and packed shortly before dispatch to ensure they reach you in the best possible condition.
Thaw in the fridge overnight or at room temperature for a few hours before feeding. Never defrost in hot water or a microwave. Once fully thawed, feed promptly and do not refreeze.
