Woodlice

Our woodlice are a versatile addition to many reptile, amphibian and bird diets, offering solid nutritional value as part of a varied feeding routine. They're also well suited to bioactive and naturalistic setups, where they'll work as part of a cleanup crew by consuming waste and recycling nutrients in the enclosure.

Brown Crickets

Brown crickets are one of the most popular staple livefoods for reptiles and amphibians, and for good reason. They're nutritious, active, and available in a range of sizes, with a relatively low fat content that makes them a reliable everyday feeder. Ours are sourced from ethically bred farms and raised on a completely organic diet from birth to delivery.

Black Crickets

Black crickets are highly nutritious, easy to digest, and sourced from the same ethically bred farms as our brown crickets. They're pre-fed before packing to ensure they arrive in the best possible condition, active and as nutritious as possible for your animals.

Locusts

Locusts are a staple livefood for a wide range of reptiles, and one we use regularly here at the Northampton Reptile Centre with our turtles, chameleons ,bearded dragons, basilisks, tarantulas, spiny tailed monitors. Their size and movement make them particularly effective at triggering a feeding response in larger or more active species.

Our worms are a high protein, high moisture livefood that works well across a wide range of reptile, amphibian and bird diets. They're particularly useful for species that feed on invertebrates in the wild, and make a nutritious treat or supplement to a varied feeding routine.

Cockroaches

Our Dubia feeder cockroaches are farm-bred in ethical conditions and fed only organic materials to ensure they're as nutritious as possible when they reach your pet. They're pre-fed before packaging so they arrive healthy, active and ready to feed. Dubia roaches are a popular choice for keepers who want a high protein feeder that can't climb smooth surfaces and doesn't make noise.

Flies

Our flightless fruit fly cultures are particularly well suited to very small reptiles and amphibians, hatchlings and juveniles that need appropriately sized prey. The culture format means a lasting food source can be left in the enclosure, with the flies providing a nutritious, low fat feeder for smaller animals.

Beetles

Bean Weevils are a small beetle that feeds on dried beans, as well as other dried peas and pulses. The larvae feed inside the bean, eating away at the inside until it is ready to pupate. It then makes a small chamber to pupate and emerges from the bean as an adult beetle.

Calciworms

Our calciworms are sourced from ethically bred farms and raised on a completely organic diet. They're naturally high in calcium, which makes them a particularly useful addition for juveniles and growing reptiles where calcium intake is important for healthy development.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does live reptile food last?

Pre-packed tubs of live reptile food, such as worms, crickets, locusts, and other feeder insects, typically last around one to two weeks. If you'd prefer to extend their lifespan, you can store these critters in a plastic tank or faunarium with mesh for ventilation.

Please note that this does not apply to aquatic live foods like shrimp or daphnia, which have different storage and care requirements. They have a shorter shelf life, typically 5 - 7 days. Keep them refrigerated and store in low light. Once opened, use it immediately and sieve and rinse before feeding to pets.

How can you keep feeder insects alive longer for exotic pets?

Besides giving the insects enough space and airflow, good nutrition is ideal for keeping insects alive.

This includes giving them fresh vegetables, leafy greens and bug grub. Gut loading them is a way to ensure the nutrients they eat are passed on to your pets, including bearded dragons and leopard geckos.

Do you stock bioactive custodians for terrariums?

We stock a full range of cleanup crew for your terrariums. This includes taurus mites, earthworms, isopods and springtails. These can be used to help create a balanced ecosystem in bioactive terrariums or as food for your pets.

How do I choose the right size livefood for my reptile?

A reliable guide is to choose feeder insects no larger than the width of your reptile's head. Oversized prey can be ignored, cause stress, or in some cases lead to digestive issues. Most livefoods in our range are available in multiple sizes, so you can match the feeder to your animal's current size and adjust as they grow. If you're unsure, start smaller and work up as that's always the safer approach.

What if my livefood arrives dead, damaged, or in poor condition?

All livefood is covered by our Livefood Freshness Guarantee to ensure you and your pets are happy with our products. If your livefood arrives dead or in poor condition (not due to missed delivery or delays), contact us before 12pm Mon-Fri with your order number and a photo. We’ll replace it free of charge, usually with next-day delivery. In colder months, allow cold or sluggish bugs time to warm up before reporting issues.
